Chicago Sports Talking Head Says Derrick Rose Doesn’t Deserve To Have His Jersey Retired By The Bulls And He Couldn’t Be More Wrong

As Coby White and the Chicago Bulls gear up to face Derrick Rose and the Detroit Pistons tonight in Chicago, there has been chatter on Twitter about the former Bull and whether or not he deserves to have his #1 Jersey hung in the rafters of the United Center.

The NBC Sports Bulls twitter account tweeted this photo of the jersey up in the rafters along with other Bulls Legends. The tweet meant to pay homage to the man as he makes a homecoming to this great city. It was then met with criticism from Chicago Sports Radio host Dave Kaplan

I will be honest. When I saw this I instantly was engulfed in a fiery rage that caused by body to start sweating profusely even in the Chicago cold. I was sitting at my desk thinking of a way to respond with a certain level of anger and poise but I could not form any clear sentences. So I had to wait for the time for me to be able to cool down and write this post. (I am still very much heated and became even more enraged everytime I look at that tweet.

A horrible take indeed.

Now I don’t listen to Dave Kaplan on the radio or listen to any of his podcasts. However, I have seen him rant and scream on twitter and on the local television network enough to know that I do not care for his takes or really even him as a person. His presence bothers me and if I was ever in the same room as him I would just think to myself how displeased I am with his existence. I have felt that way long before I even saw this take but now I know all of my feelings are in fact valid.

He has to still earn it. #NoParticipationTrophies

I am not sure if Dave is aware but having your jersey retired is a team award. It’s a way for the franchise and city to honor you based on what you did for them while you were with them. Teams have retired jerseys for being a fan favorite (see: Nick Collison and the OKC Thunder) or for having pure love from the city and fans (See: Zach Randolph and the Memphis Grizzlies). To say that Derrick Rose hasn’t earned that honor from the CHICAGO BULLS is disrespectful to the man and also disrespectful to the city.

Derrick Rose was the #1 Overall Pick in 2008 by his Hometown team the Chicago Bulls

Derrick Rose was Rookie of the Year

Derrick Rose led the Bulls to the Playoffs in his first year and played in one of the greatest playoff series in NBA History against the defending champs.

Derrick Rose led the Bulls to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since Michael Jordan.

Derrick Rose was a 3 Time All Star

Derrick Rose was a god damn MVP

This was all before he turned 24 years old.

All before his body broke down and his string of unfortunate injuries had him nearly out of the league.

To sit there and say that Derrick Rose is still on a “Wait and See” basis to have his jersey retired by the Bulls after everything he has done for the Franchise and the city of Chicago is so moronic that Dave Kaplan should be forced by law to move to Alaska and cover Dog Sled Racing.
