I’ll be honest when I walked into work this morning and fired up twitter to avoid doing actual work, I was just expecting to see some Media Day quotes from my favorite NBA players. I did not think that I would see that Shaquille O’Neal dropped a diss track aimed at Damian Lillard. It was a great way to start the day.
What did Dame ever do to Shaq? What caused this?
Well there’s a clip of Dame on Joe Budden’s podcast saying that he’s got better bars than Shaq and that the only reason Shaq was getting any traction as a lyricist is because “Shaq doing non basketball things” is always hilarious so him rapping with Biggie was just another gimmick like his movies and The General.
Shaq disrespectfully disagreed and felt the need to remind the world who he is. Which is the greatest entertainer alive.

Then Dame responded.

This is now Dame’s second rap battle of the offseason. He dusted Marvin Bagley III earlier in the summer and he’s just been keeping cool, not posting videos of himself in the gym.
Dame said that after he murdered MBIII he was done paying attention to anyone that was trying to call him out. This time is different.
If Shaq lays down a challenge you best respond or else he will clown you all season long on Inside The NBA. The worst case is that he pulls a few unnecessary clips of Dame for Shaqtin A Fool.
Dame answered. Oh boy did he answer. He came with the heat.
Let’s break it down:
-Shaq came in talking big money. Said Dame will never be an MVP candidate and said Dame wasn’t even as good as Trevor Ariza.
-Dame came with a better flow, said Kobe won Shaq his rings and said that his Miami title was won of the strength of Flash (D-Wade)
-Dame said Shaq was just an Icy Hot poster boi.
-Shaq had a video of a Shaq puppet rapping along.
This was a hard fought round and both rappers brought BARS. However, there can only one winner.

If either of these guys care about the culture they will continue this until Dame actually has to start the season. I just hope we get more rapping Shaq.
